As part of their social responsibility to the community they serve, Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Ikate, Surulere Lagos, through the Healthcare and Welfare committees, in collaboration with Involve Global Foundation D. B. A Oshunluyi Foundation conducted a health fair on the 11th August 2019 at the church premises.
The health fair commenced with health education on Depression, Suicide and Insomnia. It provided information on health promotion and disease prevention. The health fair also featured activities such as blood pressure and blood sugar level screening, physical examination, consultation, malaria parasite test, deworming and free medication dispensing.
ANALYSIS
A total of 86 patients were attended to, 53(61.63%) females and 33 (38.37%) males.
Breakdown of the diagnosis are as follows:
- 32(36.8%) are known hypertensive patients, with the highest blood pressure being 206/186mmHg,
- 7 (8.14%) are known diabetes mellitus patients with the highest random blood sugar being 358mg/DL, provided during the health fair.
- 6(6.98%) has both diabetes mellitus and hypertension,
- 24 (27.91%)General Body Pain,
- 3 (3.49%) Insomnia,
- 3 (3.49%) Arthritis,
- 4(4.65%) Malaria,
- 13(15.12%) Cough,
- Others 17 (19.76%)
OBSERVATION
- The majority of patients with hypertension and Diabetes mellitus were not compliant with the medication regimen.
- The majority of the participants were female (61.63%).
- Good control of the crowd.
RECOMMENDATION
- Emphasis should be laid on compliance with medication and lifestyle modification
- Committee to give advanced notice about health fair to parishioners and community.
